Position Title: Cargill Master Stage Carpenter
Reports to: Production Stage Manager
Position Summary:
Lead running crew, liaise with stage management on running the deck and choreographing scene shifts, maintain scenery, props and effects for productions and maintain stage facility/equipment. Responsible for day-to-day supervision of Run Crew, but not for hiring of said positions.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Work with the UHG Master Stage Carpenter to share information between theatre spaces. Work together on maintaining both theatre facilities and on repairs needed for all shows for scenery, props and effects. Assist UHG Master Stage Carpenter with daily/weekly safety checks.
- Maintain the stage facility and work with the Technical Director keep all stage equipment in good repair.
- Provide support for internal and external special events.
- Participate in all seating calls on Cargill Stage. Responsible for maintenance of seating and bringing any potential concerns to the attention of the Production Manager and Technical Director.
- Work with the Stage Manager and the Assistant Stage Manager to structure and create how the deck is run and keep this consistent and safe for all performances.
- Participate in the scenic construction process through careful review of scenic designs and by conferring with the Technical Director on how pieces are to move, play and store.
- Work with the Production Stage Manager to schedule the crew in a timely fashion and to communicate any concerns regarding crew morale.
- Document the backstage pack and any other pertinent information for future productions.
- Model professional behavior to students involved in productions.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Prior management experience.
- Minimum of two years in professional theatre situation or extensive summer stock/educational experience.
- Working knowledge of basic scenic carpentry, welding, rigging, sewing, properties construction, painting, hydraulics, pneumatics, and theatrical automation.
- Knowledge of safe work practices to reduce the risk of injury.
- Requires flexibility, creative problem-solving and the ability to build positive working relationships.
Position Status: Seasonal full time, hourly. Includes comprehensive benefits plan. Position included in collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local 13, AFL-CIO.
